Born Bexleyheath, England, 1958.

Kate Bush was a bit of a prodigy. By her fifteenth birthday she had already written more than a hundred songs, and in 1973 her precocious talent came to the attention of Pink Floyd guitarist Dave Gilmour. He was sufficiently impressed by her material to subsidize a demo tape, which in turn impressed A&R executives at his record company, EMI. As a result, a unique ‘sponsorship’ arrangement was set up in 1976 whereby Bush would spend a year honing her talent in return for an EMI advance of £3500. At the end of this period, the singer began recording at Abbey Road, and in January 1978 the first Kate Bush single, “Wuthering Heights”, was released. It was a breathtakingly original piece of music, which showcased her four-octave voice to stunning effect, and it raced to the top of the UK charts.
